What is Lupus?
Lupus is a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of the body (skin, joints, and/or organs inside the body). There is currently no cure – only treatment.
In lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, which is the part of the body that fights off viruses, bacteria and germs and causes it to destroy your bodies healthy tissues. This can cause inflammation, pain, and damage in various parts of the body.
Despite growing research and understanding many people are not aware of lupus or the effects it can have on sufferers. To find out more information about lupus click here.
What does the LFA aim to do?
The LFA energetically pursues its mission through five program objectives:
1. Provides direct financial support to researchers through LFA's own national research program, Bringing Down the Barriers
2. Advocates for increased public and private sector support for research on lupus
3. Translates research findings into medically sound information and programs for people with lupus, their families, physicians, and other health professionals
4. Heightens public awareness of the impact of lupus
5. Supports individuals with lupus, their families and caregivers
Why the LFA?
When my sister, Marie, was thirteen she was diagnosed with lupus and has been on medication to treat it ever since.
Despite a tedious daily drug routine, multiple hospital visits and check-ups, ignorance by some members of the general public Marie has never once complained about her condition and has always just got on with her life. She truly is a credit to anyone associated with the disease and this is why the LFA is my number one Charity.

Our Mission:
To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
A Boys & Girls Club Provides:
A safe place to learn and grow...
Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals...
Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences...
Hope and opportunity.
The Scope of the Movement:
Helping Kids BE GREAT!
In 2008, Boys & Girls Clubs achieved great things by making a positive impact in communities around the world. Recognizing the challenges young people face, we launched a five-year strategic plan that focuses on three key outcomes for our youth: academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship. The theme of this year's annual report, BE GREAT, emphasizes youth advocacy and demonstrates how Clubs help kids be their best.
